About the Club

About the Club:

Western Pleasure horse and riderThe Westfield Riding Club was founded in 1939 by a group of horse enthusiasts whose intent was fostering interest in the use, care, breeding and protection of horses.  Particular interest was placed on developing an understanding of horses and horsemanship.

We have monthly meetings at the Club grounds the first Wednesday of each month, April through December.  At meetings, members can get to know each other and can get involved in the club’s many events and activities. We love input from our members and we welcome participation from everyone! We often invite speakers in the local horse community and selected horse professionals to our meetings so they can share their experience and expertise. During the winter months, we meet either at a member’s house or farm, or we find another cozy location so we can plan and enjoy time together.

WRC owns a five acre parcel in Westfield, MA.  The grounds feature a rustic meeting house with a kitchen, a cozy fireplace, and a nice porch. We also have a 100′ x 230′ riding arena complete with a judge’s booth, as well as a cook shack, a small storage barn, and plenty of room to park trailers.

Junior In-Hand ClassEach year the Club presents two Open Horse Shows with classes for a wide variety of disciplines, age groups, and types of horses.  Whether you ride hunt seat, saddle seat, or Western pleasure; if you ride a Quarter Horse, a Thoroughbred or a pony; if you drive  a mini or a Friesan, our shows have classes ideal for beginners (and green horses) through season show veterans.  We have divisions to suit the many types of horses and riders who want to show locally, and we award a High Point Championships for the top scoring Junior and Senior rider each year.

Our members also organize  monthly trail rides during the riding season.  We regularly schedule rides at the wonderful trails of places like Knightville Dam, Robinson State Park and Blandford Mountain. We would love to have you join us!
