Descriptions of Classes
Exhibitors must accomplish tasks as directed by the announcer with the cue, “Simons says….” Riders who perform the tasks without the cue are out. Leads and diagonals will count. The game is the same for in hand– just leading instead of riding.
Egg & Spoon
Riders or handlers will carry an egg on a spoon through the class. The one who keeps the egg on the spoon the longest wins!
Riders or handlers will carry a cup of water through the class. The one who has the most water at the end of the class wins!
Lead Line Candy Race
On GO, mounted lead line riders will be lead to end of arena. Their handlers will help them dismount, then the handlers will bring back horses to the starting point with the riders following behind on foot, gathering as much candy as they can. The rider who gathers the most candy wins.
Exhibitors ride from the in gate to the other end of arena and dismount. There, they pick up a carrot and use it to persuade their horse to follow them back to the starting line. The game is basically the same for in hand, but the handler runs down with horse in hand.
Riders or handlers move their horse through a course that includes going over two cross rails, around a barrel and go back over the two cross rails to start line.
Each exhibitor must ride bareback. Upon entering the ring, the judge places a piece of paper (approximately 3” x 5”) under the rider’s leg between the knee and buttocks. The horses are then worked at a walk, trot, and canter both directions of the ring. Any rider not performing the gaits asked by the judge in a reasonable amount of time is eliminated. As exhibitors lose their paper, they are eliminated. The last to lose the paper is first; next to last, second, etc.
Pole Bending Pattern
*In Hand Pattern: Weave down, Run Back
The starting line will be 50-100 feet from the entrance to the keyhole. The entrance will be 4 feet wide and 10 feet long, connected to a circle 20 feet in diameter; this forms the keyhole.
Contestants will cross the starting line, proceed through the entrance, turn right or left in the circle, making a complete 180 degree turn. Then the contestant will exit the keyhole through the entrance and cross the finish line. The contestant will be disqualified if the horse steps outside the chalk line marking the key hole.
